An Indian gem-set and enamelled gold throne for a deity
Probably Rajasthan, 19th century
This is a wonderfully opulent gold throne for a deity. Designed to hold an image or idol, this Sinhaasan or Takht is set with gems using the kundan technique. Decorated with enamels in red, green, and blue, the throne bears an umbrella, or Chattri, a sign of divinity, covering the idol. In the middle of the seat, there is a large, foot-shaped Colombian emerald.
