A Victorian taxidermy Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) with rabbit prey under a dome

Late 19th/early 20th century  

Full mount adult with head-turning sharply to the right, perched atop a painted faux rock with a juvenile rabbit prey underfoot, with ferns and grasses to the base, enclosed beneath a large glass dome, mounted on an ebonised circular base, raised upon three bun feet.

With a central flowering branch sprouting from an oval mahogany veneered base, supporting several taxidermy birds, amongst others an African Emerald Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx cupreus), Red-bellied Paradise Flycatcher (Terpsiphone rufiventer), Pin-tailed Whydah (Vidua macroura), Southern masked weaver (Ploceus velatus), two Southern red bishop birds (Euplectes orix), two Northern red bishop birds (Euplectes franciscanus), Lothens Sunbird (Cinnyris lotenius) and the Red-chested Sunbird (Cinnyris erythrocercus), and several other birds and iridescent beetles.
