A large Sri Lankan Suriya-Mara or Ceylonese rosewood (Albizia odorotissima) and cane armchair

On four lion-paw feet sprouting from acanthus leaves.
H. 127.5 x W. 79.5 x D. 73.7 cm
This is more of a throne than a chair. King size furniture, particularly cabinets, had already been popular on Sri Lanka under the Dutch and remained so under the English in the 19th century. Wood was abundantly available on the island.
